Wondermind Global Inc., the mental health startup Selena Gomez cofounded in 2021 alongside her mother Mandy Teefey and Newsette founder Daniella Pierson, is facing a fraud lawsuit from five of its early investors. Filed in Delaware federal court, the suit alleges the company never built the mobile app it promised, failed to secure partnerships it claimed with JPMorgan Chase and Fidelity, and misrepresented revenue from advertising deals and celebrity content, all while concealing its deteriorating finances from backers.

## A startup built around 'mental fitness'

Wondermind launched with a concept built around treating mental health the way a gym membership treats physical health, positioning itself as a routine-based approach to mental fitness. It attracted serious backing early on, including from Serena Williams's venture fund, Lightspeed Venture Partners and Sequoia Capital, and was valued at $95 million in 2022 on the strength of a $5 million funding round. Gomez served as the company's chief impact officer and led its marketing, leaning on a combined social media following the lawsuit puts at more than 500 million people across her platforms.

## Investors say they were kept in the dark

The five plaintiffs, who together invested $1.2 million, say Wondermind quietly collapsed in 2025 without ever informing them. According to the complaint, "the app was never built," and for three years none of the company's founders, officers or directors told investors what was actually happening internally. The investors say they only learned of the company's troubles after a September 2025 article in The Cut raised questions about its operations, well after the money had already been spent.
